April 24th -Trauma Informed Practise / Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE)

Training at Southend. Active Essex Foundation brought further Adverse Childhood Experience / Trauma Informed Training to Southend at Garon Park, with delivery by the Streetgames team. It’s really important for the organisations that we work with to understand the backgrounds of the young people they work with and are able to empathise with them in terms of the issues they may have experienced in their formative years, and still may experience today. This is especially important when understanding why some young people may behave in a challenging manner, or have issues with seemingly innocuous situations. It was a really good session, with a lot of engagement from those who attended. Very grateful to Garon Park Southend for hosting us at their amazing facility with many acres of land packed full of community activity.

April 25th – Impact of Sport Training at Thurrock

This training, again delivered by Streetgames, gives organisations the tools to deliver quality interventions for young people, and allows them to assess themselves against the 10 key principles of what makes a good sport and activity provision. A good number of organisations attended, along with the local Police and others from statutory agencies. Again, there was a lot of sharing and interaction and honest assessment. The venue was Grangewaters Outdoor Education Centre, which is another community based facility owned and run by the local authority for the community. We would like to promote this venue as an outstanding location, we had certainly never been there, but it is an incredible community asset with watersports and other activities and acres of space, thank you Grangewaters.
